Congressional Republicans are moving ahead with a full repeal.

Via Healthwatch:

Congressional Republicans aren’t impressed with President Obama’s new policy on contraception and religious institutions.

Leaders on the House Energy and Commerce Committee said they still plan to move a bill that would make further changes to the administration’s mandate.

Obama said Friday that religious institutions like Catholic hospitals and universities will not have to include contraception in their employees’ healthcare plans or notify employees that they can get birth control directly from their insurer instead. But Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) said the policy is still an affront to religious freedom.

“The administration has simply reaffirmed that Congressional action to permanently reverse this mandate is necessary,” Upton said in a statement.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) also dismissed the White House’s “accommodations,” saying the only solution is full repeal of the requirement that employers cover contraception without a co-pay.

Is The US Preparing To Invade Iran?

For the past few days I have noticed a distinct uptick in the amount of military helicopter traffic over my neck of the swamp. I have mentioned it to friends and we have wondered aloud about its meaning. Now, I think we may have the answer.

According to Debkafile “Operation Bold Alligator” may be what I am observing from my dry perch in the swamps of North Carolina.

In an article titled: “Operation Bold Alligator: 20,000 Troops Preparing On US East Coast For Persian Gulf Action” Debkafile says the following: “Some 20,000 marines, seamen and air crews from half a dozen countries, a US nuclear aircraft carrier strike group and three US Marine gunship carriers are practicing an attack on a fictitious mechanized enemy division which has invaded its neighbor. It is the largest amphibian exercise seen in the West for a decade, staged to simulate a potential Iranian invasion of an allied Persian Gulf country and a marine landing on the Iranian coast. Based largely on US personnel and hardware, French, British, Italian, Dutch, Australian and New Zealand military elements are integrated in the drill.” (SOURCE)

We folks here in North Carolina are not unaccustomed to finding ourselves in the middle of military training exercises. US Special Forces train here. We are surrounded by military installations. Just east of me is the Marine Corp Air Station at Cherry Point, NC. Northeast is Camp Lejeune, also a Marine Corp Training facility. North is Fort Bragg and Pope Army Airfield, and a tad farther north is Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base near Goldsboro, NC. So, you know that for military activity to draw our attention, it has to be big and unusual. Bold Alligator is both.

It is sort of interesting, too, that this exercise is taking place at the same time as the Iranian’s large naval exercise off the southern coast of Iran.

Debkafile goes on to say: “The exercise is scheduled to end on February 14, a week before the winding up of the Iranian drill, after which the participants are to be shipped out to Persian Gulf positions opposite Iran. Altogether three American aircraft carrier strike groups, the French Charles de Gaulle carrier and four or five US Marines amphibian vessels will be posted there.” (SOURCE)

We have mentioned in previous comments that for a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities to be more than a delaying tactic, it will require boots on the ground, to one extent or the other. Air strikes alone will not destroy the Iranian nuke facilities. Air strikes can slow their program down but not end it.

Iran’s coastal gun and missile batteries must be taken out along with their radar emplacements and there will need to be attacks on Iran’s Revolutionary Guards barracks, bases, and training areas. Iran’s air force, though tiny and not much of a threat, must be wiped out. Iran’s naval facilities and their attack boats and blue water navy will be badly mauled, if not destroyed, and that includes their small fleet of submarines.

The attack, when it comes, will be swift and terrible – and it will continue for a while -- until the job is done.

Even if Iran manages to close the Straits of Hormuz, it will be a temporary closing. If Iran decides to invade one of its neighboring Arab states, oh, say Saudi Arabia, well, that’s what the Bold Alligator exercise is about.

This attack, which may be only weeks away, has been coming for years. For my generation of Americans it will, to some extent, be pay back for Iran’s seizing of the US Embassy in Teheran during the Carter Administration. No, we have not forgotten.

For many months the US has been moving and stockpiling military supplies and materiel on a couple of Islands well within range of the Straits of Hormuz. This will not be a knee-jerk operation.

The Germans introduce “lightening War,” Blitzkrieg, in the 1930’s. America learned from it and have since become masters at the execution of overwhelming force applied at numerous locations simultaneously. It is devastating.

There is little doubt that a face-to-face showdown between the US and Iran is coming. The unprecedented forward deployment of men, munitions, and materiel -- plus the practicing and training for such an event speaks to the willingness of the US to bring the hammer down should it become necessary.

Oh – asking Israel to sit this one out, as we did in the war with Iraq, would be an insult.

On January 30, 2012, Colorado's Centennial Institute hosted a lively and healthy debate asking the question, “Does the Tea Party or the Occupy Movement best represent America’s needs and goals?” I was there to defend the Tea Party movement ideals, alongside Congressman Tom Tancredo. We were up against Colorado State Representative Daniel Kagan (D) and Colorado State Senator Pat Steadman (D), who were there to defend the Occupy movement ideals. Over 200 attended this spirited debate.

Special thanks to John Andrews, director of Centennial Institute, for inviting me to participate on this panel.

My Opening Remarks

The most exceptional nation in world history is at a critical cross roads. But the issues that face America today actually cross party lines. They are not issues that were new to our founding fathers.

“We’re told we must choose between left and right,” said Ronald Reagan in 1964, “but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream – the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order – or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path.”

I’m going to boldly state that the Tea Party movement reflects this insight from Reagan and the original intent of America’s founding fathers. It represents those virtues which motivate and bring America up.

In contrast, Occupy Wall Street, with its radical ends and lawless means, represents a destructive force and are the very weights which would pull our country downward towards that heap of totalitarianism.

The Tea Party is about individuals. Occupy is about the masses, and transferring power from the individual to the so-called “99 percent.”

The Tea Party is about self-reliance and personal responsibility. Occupy is about dependence on others and claims on government.

The Tea Party defends and understands the benefits of free markets. Occupy despises and seeks to crush capitalism.

The Tea Party arises from a spirited people who have the pride and courage to reject the advance of despotism. Occupy stems from an excessive dependence from those who would easily invade the property and civil rights of others, a dependence which fosters individual weakness and governmental strength.

If Occupy were to win, America’s founding principles would lose.

When the Tea Party movement wins, America’s founding principles will win.

What Have I Contributed to This “Tea Party” Movement?

Mostly, I’m a blogger. But beyond that, I have:

- walked precincts;
- co-founded a successful grassroots group;
- spoken at every tax day Tea Party rally in Colorado Springs since 2009, as well as others across Colorado;
created and maintained an online cause to stop ObamaCare, with national reach to educate and mobilize over 120,000 - Americans;
- created my blog www.Mom4Freedom.com;
- created and hosted my Political Power Tools workshop, where I teach concerned citizens all across Colorado how they can advance freedom’s cause using online and other effective tools;
- led the volunteer petition effort for Colorado’s 2010 ballot initiative 62, “Colorado’s Right to Health Care Choice”;
- written for local freedom newspaper “The Constitutionalist Today”;
- formed a statewide online discussion forum and coalition providing opportunity for over 100 Colorado freedom activists to network and coordinate efforts;
- organized a variety of freedom events;
- been awarded the 2010 Vern Bickel grassroots leadership award by the Independence Institute, and;
- been named a Top 5 Republican influencer in Colorado by Campaigns and Elections magazine.

And that’s just some of what I’ve done. You can call me a “AAA” personality type who just happens to love America and value freedom.

Washington Paid Cell Phone Bills to Millions of Poor Americans

One of many entitlement programs our government supports. Who said the poor had it rough? I didn't know owning a phone was a right.

(YAHOO) Last year, a federal program paid out $1.6 billion to cover free cell phones and the monthly bills of 12.5 million wireless accounts. The program, overseen by the FCC and intended to help low-income Americans, is popular for obvious reasons, with participation rising steeply since 2008, when the government paid $772 million for phones and monthly bills. But observers complain that the program suffers from poor oversight, in which phones go to people who don't qualify, and hundreds of thousands of those who do qualify have more than one phone.

Last summer, a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review story shed some light on a government program that relatively few Americans knew existed. (Read more about it here.) The Lifeline program provides low-income Americans with free cell phones (basic ones such as those made by Tracfone, not smartphones) and covers up to 250 free minutes each month. As many as 5.5 million residents in Pennsylvania alone could qualify for the program, which is funded primarily by the Universal Service Fund fee added to the bills of land-line and wireless customers.

The Mainstream Media has been telling us – no – ASSURING us for a number of weeks now that Romney had the Republican nomination wrapped up. The GOP race was, they told us -- over, done, kaput! But, somehow, the republican voters didn’t seem to get the message.

As the primaries and caucuses have flown by, the MsM seems to be way behind the curve.

Remember the guy in the debates standing way down on the end, the guy you couldn’t see unless the camera pulled way back and shot the stage with a wide angle lens? Well, THAT guy now has more wins that the media declared leader.

So, what’s wrong?

Well, nothing is wrong -- except the media.

If I had to offer a quick, from the hip, analysis of the GOP primary season so far, I’d have to say the voters are sending a clear message to the hierarchy of the Republican Party. That message is: We don’t like the choices you have given us. We don’t like where you are trying to force us to go. We don’t like that you have decided the conservative vote can be so easily discounted. And, finally, we REALLY don’t like Romney.

If you think the waters are muddy now, just wait until the primaries move into the deep southern states. Most likely we will see Gingrich beginning to build another head of steam and he could, fairly quickly, match Romney in primaries won.

We MAY be headed for a brokered convention. Now, I say that with a great deal of reservation. A brokered convention is not likely, but this election cycle for republicans may, I say – MAY – wind up in a Gordian Knot with only the sharp sword of a floor fight at the convention in Tampa having the ability to slice through and deliver a nominee republican voters can agree upon.

As I said, I don’t think a brokered convention will happen. BUT having said that, I think Republicans voters ought to be aware that it COULD happen. It behooves one to be prepared for just such a possibility.

What we are seeing, I believe, is a near conservative revolt within the Republican Party. Conservatives have, within the past few years, come to understand that the republican establishment had rather conservatives be somewhere else, anywhere else, other than in the Republican Party. If conservatives had a viable political party with which to align themselves -- they’d do just that -- and that would be the end of the Republican Party.

It is an open secret that conservatives are more than a little upset with the GOP for the obvious boosting of Romney. Conservative anger is going to cost the GOP dearly in the election in November.

As a southerner, I can tell you that southern conservatives do not buy the electability of Romney. And from the results of the latest caucuses, it would seem that the south is not the only region of America that holds that opinion. I mean, according to the establishment GOP, McCain was electable, as was Dole. Turned out, the GOP was dead wrong about both. They are dead wrong about Romney, too. Here in my part of the southeastern USA, we are going about our business with the sure and certain knowledge that Obama will win a second term. We are preparing for the worst.

The dye is cast. It is too late for a candidate with true conservative credentials to enter the race with any expectation of victory at the GOP convention. So, we are preparing, as best we can, to suffer through another four years of King Obama’s reign.

And there is this from USNEWS.COM: “Never-Wrong Pundit Picks Obama to Win in 2012.” If you care to take a look at this rather interesting story, you will find it (HERE).

So gear up. We conservatives have to be able to hold this country together, to protect our constitution and our liberty from the socialist regime of Mr. Obama for nearly five more years. It is a huge task and one for which the timid need not apply.

I love to listen to Rush and Mark Levin, but to me Jimmy Z is just a lot more personable. I plug him into my iPad a listen to him while I jog. In fact I have made it a rule not to listen to his show unless I am jogging. That way I can't fall off the wagon and still keep up with he has going on.

What I like most about him is that he will answer practically ever email, and if you will keep it classy, he will play your phoned in rant to his considerable audience.

I have listened to him for years now.

(FREEBEACON) UPDATE II: After a WFB exclusive, Ron Klein tells NBC’s Michael Isikoff that he plans to immediately de-register as a lobbyist for Spirit Airlines Inc., saying he never meant to register in the first place.

“I’m not a lobbyist,” Klein said, claiming his registration was the result of a “clerical error” by an employee of Holland & Knight LLP, the lobbying law firm where he works.

Klein’s assertion seems to contradict comments made by an Obama campaign official earlier in the day, which indicated that Klein was, in fact, a registered lobbyist.

“The minute [Klein] became a lobbyist, he stopped raising money for the campaign,”the official told Politico. “He’s no longer associated with the campaign.”

Klein said he plans to continue bundling donations for Obama’s reelection campaign. He has already raised at least $200,000 to date.

Holland & Knight spokeswoman Linda Butler told the Washington Free Beacon the firm is “not commenting on this story.”

(CBS News) DENVER -- It took one night for Rick Santorum to become a player again in the Republican presidential race.

The former Pennsylvania senator came out on top in the voting in all three contests Tuesday night, including an unexpected five-point victory in Colorado's caucuses. Santorum also won the Minnesota caucuses, by an 18-point margin, and he won by 30 points in the Missouri primary.

Santorum moves on without any new delegates, but with plenty of momentum.

For everyone who flat-out declared the GOP battle a two-man race between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, voters in three states Tuesday night said, "Not so fast." Rick Santorum pulled off huge wins in Missouri, Minnesota and, incredibly, Colorado -- a state Romney was supposed to have locked up.

"Conservatism is alive and well in Missouri and Minnesota," Santorum told a cheering crowd in Missouri.

This all-important primary has been a roller coaster ride for all us. I myself have changed my mind several times trying to find the right candidate to put up against the greatest threat to America since the war of 1812 – Barack Obama.

I started out for Michele Bachmann, thinking that she truly represented the Teaparty and what it stands for. Not everyone agreed. I then jumped on the Cain train, just to be disappointed again. I liked Santorum, but Newt Gingrich impressed me more with his great debating skills. At the end of the day his ties with Freddie Mac, plus his questionable personal life was too much to overcome. I considered putting Ron Paul’s foreign policy aside, and took a real close look at him because of his strong constitutional stance. But again he just wasn’t the one.

I have been disappointed so many times that I began to believe that the Teaparty had been defeated. I began to believe that we were going to have to settle for the semi-socialist Mitt Romney. We were going to run another lukewarm John McCain and lose another election to Obama.

Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, I came across this video.

Rick Santorum has shown "True Grit" coming back time and time again in this GOP primary.

He is the one who has the passion to defeat Barack Obama!

President Obama, the energy president, vetoed the job-creating Keystone XL Pipeline a couple of weeks ago. This is the project we hoped would bring Canadian oil through parts of Canada and the U.S. to its terminus at the Gulf of Mexico, for refinement and import into this country – and for sale overseas. At least twenty-thousand jobs plus an estimated 100,000 spin-off jobs - went right down the toilet. What a political and pompous decision. The president threw out profits for American companies because he said House Republicans included a provision in other legislation which required him either 1: to issue the pipeline’s permit or 2: explain by Feb. 21 why building Keystone didn’t fall into America’s best interest. Waaah!

Possibly the most stubborn, self-righteous, and insensitive U.S. president of all-time, he said, "This announcement is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline, but the arbitrary nature of a deadline that prevented the State Department from gathering the information necessary to approve the project and protect the American people.” For this he punished the U.S. people and their economy. I believe this also fits the unrealistic and illogical environmental activist position that we must not promote the oil industry in any way because someone will, sometime in the distant future, dream up a new, now non-existent, inexpensive form of energy – if we invest $trillions in its research. Yes, it’s the energy of the future – the twenty-third or twenty-fourth century perhaps, but what are we going to do for fuel now? No, not high-speed rail, my days of riding the subway are over!

The consequences of his knee-jerk decision are as follows: Canada will build the pipeline west instead of south – and steer it for the Canadian Pacific instead of the U.S. Gulf. Canada will reap the profits, not America, and the oil will be sold to parts west, including China. Losing to China – again? Oh, well, President Obama doesn’t seem to care. Those wascaly Republicans simply can’t ask anything of him. The president showed them! His sensitive ego is protected, but the American people sure aren’t.

(CNSNews.com) - Roman Catholic Bishop David A. Zubik of Pittsburgh says the Obama administration is telling American Catholics: “To Hell with you.”

“The Obama administration has just told the Catholics of the United States, ‘To Hell with you!’” the bishop said in a column posted on his diocesan website. “There is no other way to put it.”

The bishop was responding to a regulation, finalized by Health and Human Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Jan. 20, that orders all health-care plans in the United States to cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives--including those that induce abortions--without any fees or co-pay.

There is no exemption at all for individual citizens or private businesses.

The Catholic Church teaches that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are morally wrong and that Catholics cannot be involved in them. After the regulation was first announced in August, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic lay leaders urged the administration to rescind it while pointing out that it would require Catholics to act against their consciences and their faith and was thus a violation of the First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion.

Why is the US still a member of the United Nations? The UN is, in my opinion, the single greatest threat to American freedom and liberty on the planet today … and that’s saying a lot!

The UN has been finagling for decades to construct a global government (a one-world government) and rule over all the peoples of the earth. National sovereignty be damned.

For the people of the United States it would mean the abrogation of the US Constitution. Our loyalty would be to the UN -- not to the US Constitution. UN law would prevail in America, not US law.

The UN has delusions of grandeur. I mean REAL delusions. Unfortunately, except for the late US Senator Jesse Helms, of North Carolina, nobody has been willing to stand up and call them on it.

Any attempt to rule the world is destined to end in utter and abject failure. The people of this planet are far too diverse -- and just plain ornery -- to agree to live under one government. Any attempt to force a one-world government on earth will lead to wars all over the planet. The earth would be in a constant state of world war. Any FOOL can see that.

And yet they continue to mold a receptive mindset in the less educated, less sophisticated, and the less fortunate peoples of the earth in order to create a creature so banal, ignorant, weak, and vulnerable as to be completely reliant on them for their very existence. It is akin to the modus operandi of the Democratic Party in the United States.

And now the UN wants us to pay for it, too!

Once again they are seeking a “World Tax” to fund their global socialism. It is pure socialism/communism. Of course, they want to tax the wealthier countries more than the less wealthy countries. It other words – it is

redistribution of the wealth or, as we have come to know it … socialism.

“ A 2010 UN blueprint for putting the organization back at the forefront of global governance alarmingly revealed the agenda to re-brand global warming as “overpopulation” as a means of dismantling the middle classes while using “global redistribution of wealth” and increased immigration to reinvigorate the pursuit of a one world government.” (SOURCE)

The UN has even put forth “a plan under which the west would be mandated to respect “the rights of Mother Earth” by paying a “climate debt” which would act as a slush fund for bankrolling an all-powerful world government.” (SOURCE)

Oh, the utopians will love this idea … until they grow up. By then, of course, it will be too late -- because the world will already be enslaved.

If the US is the subject of an act of God, and conservatives manage to grasp control of the Congress and the Presidency, then Americans should insist that one of the first acts of the new government should be to pull the United States of America out of the United Nations.

As an American, I am embarrassed that my country is a member in such a corrupt organization. For good measure, Americans ought to insist that the United Nations move its headquarters to a country more accepting of the UN’s corrupt socialist agenda.

The UN is a festering carbuncle on the posterior of the world. Its stench reaches unto heaven.

By the way: that “world tax” the UN wants to levy would be … “a minimal financial transaction tax (of .005 percent). This will create $40 billion in revenue.” (SOURCE)

In a recent report by Olivier De Schutter, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, “Mr. De Schutter blames the free market system for threatening the livelihoods of “peasants, fishers, pastoralists, and indigenous peoples.” He emphasizes “the importance of land redistribution for the realization of the right to food.” (SOURCE)

De Schutter goes on to say: “Rather than focusing on strengthening the rights of landowners, States should encourage communal ownership systems, strengthen customary land tenure systems and reinforce tenancy laws to improve the protection of land-users…” (SOURCE)

What he is advocating, dear reader, is doing away with private ownership of land and replacing it with collective farms, or socialist communes. YOU will not be able to own land. The STATE will own all the land.

The United Nations is a socialist organization and the United States of America has no business even associating with it let alone being a dues paying member.

Former Senator Rick Santorum bests President Obama in a head to head match up, according to the latest Rasmussen survey. This should help him in the electability department.

The Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking Poll for one day only — Feb. 5. — marks the first time Santorum has held a lead over Obama in potential matchups.
It’s a small lead for Santorum — 1 percentage point, giving him a 45-44 percent edge over Obama.
“This is the first time Santorum has ever led the president in any poll,” the Rasmussen poll said. “Several other GOP challengers have led the president a single time in the polls, including Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and Newt Gingrich. Each man briefly held the lead while they were surging in the polls, only to fall quickly. It remains to be seen what will happen to Santorum’s support.” (Read More)

This is one quote from B.O. that you will not believe. In an interview with Matt Lauer, President Obama said about his supporters' frustration with him, "What's frustrated people is that I have not been able to force Congress to implement every aspect of what I said in 2008...It turns out our Founders designed a system that makes in more difficult to bring about change than what I would like sometimes."

I had to replay this a couple of times just to make sure I heard him correctly.

Has this man ever read the Constitution? Does he understand anything about separation of powers and checks and balances?

This is the most grotesque example of Barack Obama's disregard for the American political system.

In essence, Obama is frustrated that the Founding Fathers didn't want a tyrannical dictator to come to power and usurp the sovereignty of the people or their representatives, or the states.

Mr. President, we, the people, are not frustrated because you cannot force Congress to do everything you want to them to do. We are frustrated because of your blatant disregard for 236 years of American history.

You, Mr. President, are exactly the kind of totalitarian that the Founders feared would come to power in the United States. So, they designed the system to prevent tyrants from reverting us back to a pre-revolutionary monarchy.

If these facts are inconvenient for your plan for "fundamental transformation", then the Founders did their job correctly.

Imagine what kind of country we would live in if the Congress was "forced" to do everything the President wished.

Imagine what kind of country we would live in if was not so difficult for Obama to bring about the change that he wants.

We would be living under a Soviet-style socialist regime.

How arrogant do you have to be to think that Americans want you to be able to shove a socialist agenda down our throats?

We cannot afford four more years of a post-Constitutional, dictatorial government.

I find it curious that this country spent 50 years defeating Nazism, fascism, communism, socialism, and totalitarianism, and the liberal Democrats want to bring it all back.How would George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan feel if they heard an American President talk this way?

Don't Fire Until You See The Whites

Groucho Marx once famously said "I would not join any club that would have me as a member." And while that is usually our policy too, we're sad that we're being excluded from membership in "African Americans for Obama," a new group created by Barack Hussein Obama for the purpose of unifying Americans by dividing them by race.

Hilariously, the PR-savvy website removes the hypen from "African-Americans" in the group's name because many people believe that hyphenated Americans are half Americans. But the hyphen appears everywhere else on the page...along with what we would call a rhetorical "song and dance" if the mainstream media hadn't recently reminded us that this would be tantamount to accusing the president of putting on a minstrel show (although on a side note, we'll mention that Barack Obama's racial posturing would make Al Jolson blush).

Obviously, the president can't just ask for Black Americans to simply vote their skin color, because (in the words of Richard Nixon) that would be wrong. That's for sure!

So he needs to solicit their votes based on all of the wonderful things he's done for the Black community during his administration. Except...there aren't any. Everything that has gotten worse for America under Obama has gotten way worse for Black Americans.

Which is why, in an exquisite bit of weasel-wording, the president's website claims he "has helped strengthen the African-American community by addressing issues like education, health care, unemployment, and taxes." The magic word being "addressing," which Webster's defines as "demagoguing at a teleprompter without actually doing a damned thing."

Seriously, this is the guy who is preventing Black families from getting school vouchers, raising the cost of health care for everyone, killing the job market, and creating tax policies which promise to keep unemployment high. But still...he's addressing Black problems. Just not solving them.

Frankly, Hope n' Change is a little disappointed that the president is so aggressively injecting race into his reelection campaign, and we hope that he'll soon rise to his previous promise of being a racial healer by announcing the creation of another group which even his mother's side of the family could join.

He can call it "Typical White Persons for Obama."

And tell them which drinking fountains they can use.

The good news is that White folks are welcome to the club.
The bad news is that the club is being swung by a Black Panther.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday! While I realize the November 2012 general election will be pivotal and is closing in, I also realize that every once in a while you have to just laugh and watch football. Go Pats!

Before I dive into the chips, I’ll share that I’m optimistic despite the underlying feeling that the change required in November to move this country toward less government, greater freedom, and prosperity could be insurmountable if the Republican Party doesn’t wise up fast to conservative demand.

The D.C. grip on this country, the states, and its people is unyielding but not impossible to break.

I just finished Jack Abramoff’s book Capitol Punishment: The Hard Truth About Washington Corruption From America's Most Notorious Lobbyist last night. It was great, not the most fluid in terms of writing style but incredibly factual, relevant and eye-opening. The details were many although you could tell the biography was carefully cleansed to not expose the many who still actively broker power in Congress that benefitted from the same corrupt behavior and sometimes illegal conduct Jack went to prison for.

Abramoff’s book offers some solutions to the corruption and illegal activity gripping our country. Are we willing to listen?

Americans know today’s provisional shenanigans with huge payoffs for special interests and their lobbyists and Congress are going on in Washington 24X7 and yet collectively as citizens we take a back seat and put our heads in the sand.

Is the freight train moving too fast? I don’t think so. While I agree with Jack that change isn’t likely to occur anytime soon.

The change starts to occur by reading, self-educating, and then executing on that education.
If the Republican Party should take the Oval Office in 2012, we can only hope with institutional memory in mind, that the new president will proactively address Washington Corruption, do the right thing and make some hard choices: entitlements, tax policy, and energy among the three most important.
